The first floor features the living, kitchen and dining rooms as well as a bed and bath. A double height space over the living room and a portion of the dining room brings light deep into the interior and provides a feeling of spaciousness.

The second story loft looks out over the living and dining rooms and has space for an office, a guest bed and overflow storage.

The cottage is designed to ship on a single semi and assembled in minimal time. We’re currently working with a regional manufacturer and a local builder to see if we can get the price point to come in under what you would pay for a similar site built structure… Send us an email or give us a call if you would like us to keep you posted.

    Jim–

    This is designed specifically for the Seattle ordinance, which is very restrictive with regards to height. If Asheville is less stringent, we could easily modify the design to give the loft a little more head room.

    Nice design! What is the footprint on this design and square footage of both levels? Cost estimate? We live in Seattle and are thinking about building a dadu and weighing pros and cons of prefab vs custom.

    Reggie -
    The CAST prefab cottage is 508 gross sq. ft. (interior of finished wall to interior of finished wall) with a 120 sq. ft. covered deck.
    ground floor: 325 sq.ft
    loft: 183 sq.ft.

    Our target price is 125k which includes a poured concrete foundation, delivery and utility hookup at the cottage (the cost of getting the utilities to the cottage will be an additional charge that determined on a case by case basis). The price assumes a level lot with reasonable access. We have some flexibility on the size and specifications so customization is possible and the price could slide up or down depending on your choices.
