An average of 24 trees go into the construction of a 2000 square foot house. Make your project count with creative sustainable design.

Based on data provided by the Forest Products Journal, Vol. 44, No. 11/12, the board footage in a 2000 square foot house would equal 20,785 board feet. Our calculation of the number of trees in a house is based on a estimated cubic volume in board feet for the diameter of trunks. In reality, more trees would be needed to harvest lumber since some of the volume is lost in defects, milling, kerf cuts etc (about 30% of the log). Thankfully, mills use nearly 98% of the logs in the manufacture of OSB, particle board and other products.
