CHANNEL HOUSE
Dwell magazine competition entry 2008 - Tim Hammer

The Channel House is designed for a small family seeking to find balance between public and private, exposure and shelter, construct and nature. Located at the southeast corner of Crissy Field, the home captures views of San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate Bridge. Two long thin concrete walls running on east/west axis provide a backdrop for the stage-like living spaces, while creating a secluded zone for the private wing. The spaces are connected by a network of unconditioned decks sheltered under deep eaves, creating the need to pass in and out of doors and fostering an increased awareness of the daily and seasonal cycles of the Bay Area climate.
