WINDERMERE HOUSE
Design, 2010
The overlapping volumes of this new home define very clean spatial relationships both inside and out. The living spaces are lined up in the lower volume, each with access to the eastern terrace. A second, stacked, volume contains the bedrooms and aligns with a view of Lake Washington to the north. The second story bridges across the first to creates two apertures – one for the entry and a second for an outdoor living room. An atrium with a sculptural stair occupies the intersection of the two volumes and pulls light deep into the public spaces.
Outside, the cross delineates four distinct yards: a manicured, welcoming garden at the street corner, a utilitarian outdoor area for bikes and projects, a private backyard, and a sunset terrace facing the neighborbood.
