Kids Co. at Sunbreak Tower
education design — early learning — community
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON
Kids Co. at Sunbreak Tower will provide four toddler and preschool classrooms on the ground level of a 16-story affordable housing project providing family-sized units targeted at University of Washington employees. The constraints of the project site made early collaboration between CAST and the shell & core team particularly valuable. Through productive working sessions, we arrived at a ground floor layout that accommodates the primary entry, Kids Co., and other resident services.
A unique feature of the Kids Co. space is an outdoor play yard that is substantially covered by upper floors as well as set approximately eight feet below sidewalk level. We are capitalizing on this unusual “outdoor room” that substitutes a flexible and cost-effective immersive environment for typical “platform” structures.
I had a check-in with Enterprise yesterday and remarked on how good it’s been to work with CAST – not only is it a great design, but your work also meets schedule and pricing targets at each milestone, and that’s invaluable. The folks at Enterprise told me that’s not the first positive review they’ve received about working with CAST, and that others are impressed as well.
