RESIDENTIAL DESIGN — INDOOR / OUTDOOR LIVING
SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA
This San Jose, California residence features seamless indoor/outdoor living with gardens and terraces linking the interior to the landscape. The nerve center of the home includes a 14-foot kitchen island and breakfast nook that extends past a spacious living room to the children’s play area. A wall of glass doors and an open plan promote informal living and outdoor entertaining at its best.
The arcade that wraps this contemporary home is made from cut-to-size Jerusalem Gold Limestone columns, with dark bronze steel roofing and column capitals. The steel roof is designed to shade the large southern sliding doors but features large dramatic openings to the sky at the dining area, the ornamental garden, and the entry.
We hired CAST to do a major remodel of our home. We wanted to turn our outdated house into a contemporary and functional home to raise our two kids. Matt and CAST did an amazing job with concepts and design, working with us in great detail to incorporate all the things that were important to us, while also introducing us to things we would never have thought of! They also helped us interview and choose a general contractor and worked with them throughout the process seamlessly, despite us being in Saratoga, CA (not Seattle, where they are based).
— homeownerMatt Hutchins of CAST Architecture was a pleasure to work with. His ideas and designs were both innovative and interesting and consistently challenged us to find creative solutions. The choice of high-quality materials combined with a modern layout enabled our build team to produce a beautifully functional family home for our clients that is a showpiece in the neighborhood. Matt is highly communicative and precise and we enjoyed working through our client's renovation with him.
