ARTALEJO – LACAS

PACIFIC NORTHWEST DESIGN — SEATTLE CRAFTSMAN ARCHITECTURE — HOME DESIGN

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON

This 'zen craftsman' is a second-story addition and first-floor renovation of a 1940's house. Goals were to expand while staying in scale with the rest of the Seattle neighborhood and create connections to the landscape for indoor/outdoor living. The welcoming entry transitions from the retreat-like garden spaces to the interior. The home emphasizes abundant warm wood, natural light, and a fusion of traditional Japanese and bungalow details.

We worked closely with Tim Hammer and CAST architecture during our design-build process for our major home remodel. From the first meeting through completion, the process of working with CAST was a pleasurable one. Tim has a wonderful design aesthetic, an attention to detail, and an innovative mind that sees the potential and possibility with spaces, and then, with immaculate attention, makes those ideas into a reality. Along with those talents comes a strong ability to communicate well, to hear what we wanted, to help us clarify what we really did (and did not want), and to guide us through the process.

The end result is a home that is beautiful and functional. It has little details that catch you by surprise and make you smile. The natural light throughout the house is phenomenal. Not only did Tim design the flow, he also added incredible details to the design that allowed the finished result to be a true work of craftsmanship and art. He truly helped us design and create a home that feels beautiful, functional, connected to the outdoors, unique, and just what we wanted.
