PEAR POINT
PACIFIC NORTHWEST DESIGN — RESIDENTIAL ARCHITECTURE — SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
SAN JUAN ISLANDS, WASHINGTON
Located on nearly six acres in Washington’s San Juan Islands, this family compound reimagines three existing structures to support both seasonal gatherings and eventual year-round living. A partially constructed house will be redesigned and rebuilt using the existing foundation, creating a primary residence tailored to the family’s long-term needs. During this transition, the existing cottage will serve as the family’s residence before being renovated into a permanent accessory cottage.
The site’s barn will be adapted into a flexible hub for creativity and recreation, housing a garage, art studio, and gear storage on the ground floor, with an office and music room above. By embracing the potential of the existing buildings, the design preserves the character of the property while creating a connected and adaptable retreat for generations.
